About

Laurie was elected to the Kenmore City Council in 2005 and took office in January 2006. She is seeking re-election in November 2009 to another four year term. Laurie is the only female member of the Kenmore City Council.
“I have learned a lot in the past three and a half years and would like an opportunity to complete some of the good things we have begun.” “I look forward to seeing the SR522 Highway improvements completed, and walking along our new “main street” to the new library, post office, city hall and fire station.”
Laurie and her husband Van moved to Kenmore in 1991. Van grew up in Kenmore and was a 1968 graduate of Inglemoor High School. Together Laurie and Van have four children, the youngest of whom will be graduating from Inglemoor High School next year.
As the oldest child in a military family, Laurie moved about every two years growing up. She has been to nearly all fifty states and went to a number of different schools prior to settling in Eugene, Oregon, for high school and college. Laurie moved to the Seattle area in 1979, after receiving an Associate Degree in Science from Lane Community College.
She began her career in healthcare at University Hospital, and later worked at Children’s Hospital and in home care. “I think that all the moves as a child, and having to adjust to new schools and cultures helped me to embrace change rather than to be afraid of trying something new”
In 1998 Laurie “retired” from healthcare and became more focused on community and volunteer work. She taught at a classical Christian school for seven years and now works part time as a paraeducator (teaching assistant) with seventh graders at Kenmore Junior High.
